AUSTIN – (October 1, 2026) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved $178,526 in grant funding to Hays County, through its Flood Infrastructure Fund (FIF) program. The FIF program’s purpose is to assist in financing drainage, flood mitigation, and flood control projects.

With the assistance approved today, the County will create a community flood mitigation plan that will update Hays County’s risk ranking of stream crossings and identify high-risk locations based on building flood risk for long-term mitigation planning. Based on that ranking, at least eight high-priority low water crossings and/or flood problem areas will be identified as potential flood mitigation projects—detailed hydrologic and hydraulic modeling will also be performed at those locations. Finally, the County will create a mitigation planning report that will provide a thorough explanation of all procedures, assumptions, special considerations, comparisons, and planning results.

The grant supports the implementation of flood management evaluations as outlined in the regional and state flood plans. Visit the TWDB Flood Infrastructure Fund webpage to learn more about this program.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood mitigation, and agricultural water conservation projects.
