Texas Water Development Board authorizes $65,970,000 in Flood Mitigation Assistance grants

AUSTIN – (August 6, 2026) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today authorized execution of grant contracts not to exceed $65,970,000 million through the Flood Mitigation Assistance program. The grants are funded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and will be used for a variety of flood mitigation activities.
The TWDB administers FEMA’s Flood Mitigation Assistance grant program for Texas, and FEMA accepts applications for these grants annually.
The 13 communities receiving subgrants from the fiscal year 2020 Flood Mitigation Assistance grant program are listed on the TWDB website.
The Flood Mitigation Assistance grant program assists communities by providing federal funds for cost-effective measures to reduce or eliminate the long-term risk of flood damage to buildings, manufactured homes, and other structures insurable under the National Flood Insurance Program.
The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood mitigation, and agricultural water conservation projects.
